The Ahuashiyacu Waterfalls they are among the most accessible and frequently visited waterfalls in the San Martín region. Located just 14 km from Tarapoto, they lie within the Cordillera Escalera Regional Conservation Area,a protected zone rich in biodiversity.
“Ahuashiyacu” means “laughing water” in Quechua—a name inspired by the sound of the water as it falls from over 40 meters high. The surroundings are a natural paradise, filled with giant trees, ferns, wild orchids, and wildlife such as morpho butterflies, hummingbirds, and small amphibians.
